Pie for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner! Now that’s a concept that draws much comment as people walk by Shirlee’s booth checking out her pies. A few years ago, when a friend suggested to Shirlee that she sell her pies at the Bayview Market, it was the beginning of a major source of pleasure and income for this vendor. Drawing on the bounty of the Pacific Northwest, Shirlee blends her skill at pie making with her love of design to create beautiful, tasty pies bursting with flavor. Starting around April 15th locally grown, organic rhubarb will find its way into her pies, alone or in combination with other fruits. Next come cherries from the neighbors’ pie cherry trees, then in July a very limited number of Loganberry pies from Shirlee’s own vines. In August, expect to find local wild blackberries and the first of local apples filling the crusts. All pies are made from scratch and by hand, using fresh or frozen fruit.

To fulfill the promise of the name, Shirlee also offers savory pies for Lunch or Dinner. The Caramelized Onion Quiche is perfect for Brunch and you might want to stock your freezer with Down Home Chicken or Classic Meat pies that you bake when you’re ready. Again, all pies are made from scratch and by hand.

Shirlee offers classes in pie-making about four times a year through her cooking school, The Kitchen Door. Check with Shirlee at her booth for the next scheduled class.

Orders for special events, such as wedding receptions, birthdays or summer beach parties are welcome. The Kitchen Door also offers private classes, team building events and catering for small parties.
